Hanks' father and mother come from Portugal, and Hanks is the third generation of immigrants to America. Tom moved into the home of his father following the 1960 divorce of his parents. Hanks lived in ten residences before he reached ten years of age due to the frequent moves made by his family when he was a child. Additionally Hanks is the youngest of four siblings. Jim and Larry Hanks are his brothers, while Sandra Hanks is his sister. He is American and Greek by birth and an Catholic Mormon by faith.
